Thailand Hosts 3rd General Assembly to Bolster Jet Ski Sport in Asia Ahead of 2025 SEA Games

Pattaya, Thailand – December 15, 2024

Thailand has taken the lead in organizing the 3rd General Assembly of the Asian Association of Waterjet Federation (AAWJF), bringing together 12 member nations with the goal of strengthening jet ski sports across Asia. The meeting, presided over by Indonesian-born AAWJF President Fully Aswar, aimed to prepare for the inclusion of jet ski competitions in the 33rd SEA Games, set to be hosted by Thailand in 2025.

The assembly took place on December 15, 2024, at the championship venue for the WGP#1 Waterjet World Cup 2024, which was held at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, from December 11 to 15. Attendees included delegates from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, China, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates.

During the meeting, Pol. Gen. Dechnarong Sutticharnbancha, President of the Thai Jet Sports Boating Association(TJSBA), officially announced that jet skiing had been included as one of the sports under the “extreme sports” category for the 33rd SEA Games in 2025, hosted by Thailand. The competitions will be held at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, from December 10 to 14, 2025, featuring six medal events in the following categories:
• Endurance Open
• Runabout Stock
• Runabout 1100 Stock
• Ski GP
• Ski 1500 Stock
• Runabout Limited

Each category will require a minimum of five participating countries, with each nation allowed to field two athletes per event.

Commitment to Strengthen Jet Ski Sports in Asia

Speaking at the assembly, Fully Aswar, President of the AAWF, underscored the organization’s ambition to further elevate the status of jet skiing within Asia. He emphasized the goal of ensuring jet ski competitions remain a staple of future SEA Games, Asian Games, and Asian Beach Games. Looking ahead, Aswar called for stronger collaboration from member nations, stressing that with dedicated cooperation, the sport could achieve greater prominence in Asia.

“Our mission is to sustain jet skiing as a permanent feature in upcoming SEA Games, including the 34th and 35th editions in Malaysia and Singapore respectively,” Aswar stated. He also encouraged member countries to work together to solidify the sport’s reputation and ensure its continued growth in the region.

Season-End Celebration for Jet Ski Athletes

Later that evening, a season-ending celebration was held at the D Varee Jomtien Beach Hotel, Pattaya, where Pol. Gen. Dechnarong Sutticharnbancha and Jiraporn Kanchanapitak, Deputy Secretary-General and Treasurer of the Jet Ski Association of Thailand, hosted a gathering of athletes, coaches, and jet ski teams.

The event served as a gesture of gratitude for the athletes’ dedication throughout the year and their contributions to raising Thailand’s profile on the global jet ski stage. It was also an opportunity to recognize the volunteer efforts of Thai jet ski athletes who had supported flood relief operations in northern and southern Thailand.

In addition, the event celebrated the successful completion of the WGP#1 Waterjet World Cup 2024, which concluded earlier that afternoon. Athletes and teams from around the world who competed in the championship were honored, marking a festive end to an intense season of competition.

The 2024 World Cup, held from December 11 to 15 at Jomtien Beach, Pattaya, brought together elite jet ski athletes from around the world, showcasing the growing influence of Asian jet skiing on the international stage.

With preparations for the 2025 SEA Games now underway, Thailand’s efforts to promote and sustain the sport reflect its broader ambition to strengthen the Asian jet ski community and ensure its continuity in major international sporting events.
